Many times we take multiple photos and end up with a ton of duplicates. Here you can find out how AlbumSaver handles all those copy cat photos you may still have.
During a backup, AlbumSaver will ignore duplicate files in the same folder or globally in your PC if the images themselves match each other. The parameters for determining duplicates are:
- location on PC
- file size
- date modified
- file hash (sha256). It is used to identify duplicate files across multiple systems & drives.
AlbumSaver will not remove duplicate images from your computer!
If you noticed that AlbumSaver may have backed up duplicate pictures, please check the following details:
1. Is the file name and extension are exactly the same;
For example, if it is IMG001.jpg and IMG001.raw that is not the same file, and thus not a duplicate.
If it is IMG001.jpg and IMG001.jpg, please check in the AlbumSaver application Settings if you have checked/enabled "ignore all duplicate files" feature.
2. Are the files in the same folder;
If the files are in different folders the AlbumSaver software will check the file hash, as well as the name, size, dimensions, etc. to determine if they are duplicates. If they are found to be duplicates, the AlbumSaver will take the shorter file path and back up that file.
If they are in the same folder and have the same file name/extension they are considered duplicates.
3. Are the pictures exactly the same or just very similar (slightly different angle);
If they are a slightly different image, even the smallest difference, they are not considered duplicates.
